Posidonia 2012 Shipping Exhibition set historic records in visitor numbers, with the unofficial figure exceeding the 18,000 mark, spread across the four days of the event which was inaugurated by Greek Prime Minister on Monday evening.

The continuous strong interest of the global maritime community in Greece is mainly due to a constant flow of newbuilding orders by Greek shipowners who collectively operate the largest commercial fleet in the world (14,8% of the worlds’ ship tonnage), comprising 3,325 sailing vessels and 439 under construction with a combined capacity of more than 227 million dwt.

Last year alone, Greek shipowners invested a total of 8.5 billion USD in newbuilding orders. It is this might that global ship building powers such as China find appealing, leading to a 10% increase of its national pavilion at this year’s Posidonia.

CROSS Technical Services was there to display a number of new and innovative products that meets S.E.E.M.P. (Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan), Ballast Water Treatment, Fire Protection onboard FPSO, Drill Rigs and other cost-effective and reliable environmental solutions.

AURAMARINE launched the CRYSTALBALLAST, a Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS) which in comparison of automatic filtration and ultraviolet (UV) light may become an excellent solution for existing and under construction vessels.

VAF Instruments displayed their state-of-the-art solution for fuel consumption measurement, which uses its highly accurate new J type PT model flowmeter and flow computer solution.

During the Posidonia 2012 Shipping Fair, CROSS in cooperation with its principals VAF Instruments presented with great success the New Torque & Thrust Sensor that will be the perfect tool for shipowners that want to monitor the efficiency of the propeller and fouling of their vessels hull.
